Currently, we offer 1 service on Sunday morning which includes communion. It is important for visitors to know in our tradition any baptized person is welcome to receive communion.
Bible Readings & Sermon The first half of our service includes several readings from the Bible and a sermon, and is known as "The Liturgy of the Word". The readings used are assigned for the day from the Revised Common Lectionary. This schedule of readings is used not only by all Episcopal Churches, but is used in other denominations as well, so we are all hearing and reflecting on the sames passages of scripture.
Communion The second part of our service is known as "The Liturgy of the Table". It is here where we offer bread and wine to God, offer prayers asking that the real presence of Christ would enter into them, and all are invited to come forward to receive the bread and the wine. We believe that receiving communion in one-kind is sufficient, so those choosing not to receive wine indicate this to the person with the chalice by crossing their arms over their chest.
Those who have reasons not to receive communion are welcome to come forward to receive a blessing from the priest, which is indicated by folding your arms over your chest, rather than extending them out to receive bread.
Music Our music style is somewhat blended, which means we use our Hymnal as well as songs from other approved musical resources such as "Wonder, Love and Praise," "Lift Every Voice and Sing," and songs from Taize.
Other Details Our Sunday service is typically Holy Eucharist Rite II from our Book of Common Prayer (BCP). We sometimes use prayers from Enriching Our Worship, and on rare occasions use the service of Morning Prayer. In the past we have used the Rite I service, which has more traditional language dating back to original prayerbooks of the 1500s, as a way to celebrate our Feast Day on Trinity Sunday.
A regular Sunday service lasts approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
